A UL number is a starting point, not a factory identity check

An E-number copied into a sales email does not by itself establish who manufactures the board you are ordering. Keep the supplier’s statement and the result of your own verification as separate records.

Obtain the complete identity

Ask for the manufacturing legal name, production address, UL file number and the relevant product or material designation. Record the contracting entity as well. Where a group has several subsidiaries, request a clear explanation of which entity manufactures and which entity invoices the order.

Consult the original record

UL identifies Product iQ as its database for product and component certification information. Search using the supplied identifier and compare the returned record with the supplier’s documents. If the search is unavailable or you cannot resolve a mismatch, record the check as incomplete rather than reporting a pass.

Check the scope, not just the spelling

Capture the relevant record, its identifiers and the date of your review. Compare the holder and applicable product information with the proposed manufacturing arrangement. If a different name appears, ask for supporting documentation that explains the relationship; a similar trade name is not a resolution by itself.

Keep purchasing questions separate

Even a matching certification record does not answer who performs drilling, lamination or electrical test for your order. Request the proposed process route and disclosure of subcontracted steps. Use that information alongside the certification review when deciding whether the supplier fits your qualification requirements.

How PCBVerified labels these records

A number found on an official company website is manufacturer reported. An ownership-check status requires a separate recorded review. A directory listing and a claimed factory account do not automatically change the UL status. Open the evidence register to see the source and limitations of each record.

When a difference remains unresolved

Send one precise request: identify the mismatch, name the missing document and ask who will resolve it. Preserve the reply with the purchasing file. Qualification depends on the actual product and applicable requirements; a directory badge cannot replace that decision.
